To celebrate 50 years of the seminal Herbie Hancock album Maiden Voyage, pianist Tom Hewson (winner of the last Nottingham International Jazz Piano competition) has created fresh arrangements of the original compositions as well as new music imagining how a return voyage would sound in today's world. From calm seas to dangerous crossings and the drama of the natural world, the journey's changing fortunes are told through sparkling harmonies, free-flowing improvisation and ever-shifting shifting rhythmic momentum. This artist suggested by Friends of Jazzhouse. “An exciting trio with a special sound and understanding. There’s a real vitality and rapport in the group and the compositions are sublime, with Tom’s beautiful, adventurous piano playing throughout.†- John Taylor
