Twice voted “Best Jazz Vocalist†at the BBC Jazz Awards, with more than a dozen albums to his name, including three American releases, Ian Shaw is widely regarded as one of the most distinctive, original and creative jazz singers that the UK has produced, as well as being a talented pianist, song writer and record producer. He was encouraged as a jazz singer by Ronnie Scott himself having begun his career a decade earlier on the Alternative Cabaret Circuit, alongside comedians Julian Clary, Rory Bremner and Jo Brand while also playing in piano bars in the UK and internationally. He is much in demand as the featured soloist with big bands and orchestras both in the UK and abroad, alongside pairings with the likes of Guy Barker, Sarah-Jane Morris, Liane Carroll and Claire Martin and over the years has also worked with Quincy Jones, Abdullah Ibrahim, Cleo Laine, Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor, Nigel Kennedy and The Who’s Pete Townsend amongst many others. Tonight the show will include a mixture of jazz standards as well as re-workings of contemporary songs from writers including Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen and Stevie Wonder. “The Welsh vocalist remains the gentlest of troubadours and most nakedly magical of storytellers†Jazz Times "Utterly brilliant" Time Out
