While working with legendary bass player Dave Holland, Lorraine Baker came across the tune ‘Guinea’ by Don Cherry from the album Old and New Dreams, inspiring her to investigate the work of drummer Ed Blackwell in more depth. Blackwell came to prominence in the 1960s working with Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy, Randy Weston and many others, never forgetting his New Orleans roots, and playing in a more melodic manner than his contemporaries. Baker explores this sound on her new album Eden, and brings an exciting young quartet to the Bonington.
