March 2010:
14 SHIPSTONE STREET JAZZ ORCHESTRA: The Lion's "own" band! This large line-up rehearses at the pub, and have built up a strong local following.
21 WESTCOAST: Another new band(following "Mostly Ellington" & "Mulligan Soup"). The usual Tommy Saville quintet is augmented by Ian Maclean(bar. sax), Richard Walker(trb) and Richard Smith(gtr). The style as you'd expect from the name is slick and cool!
28 BEN MARTIN QUARTET: A superb musician who plays alto and tenor sax., guitar and bass, Ben lives just down the road. High-quality jazz is guaranteed from this dynamic foursome.
April 2010:
4 IMPRESSIONS with Karen Lake: Tasteful, close-knit sounds from this excellent band. Karen's vocals perfectly augment an agreeable, entertaining presentation.
11 DIZZY CLUB: One of Sheffield's favourite offerings. John Naylor fronts a truly unusual group that brings to life standards through energy and harmony.
18 TEDDY FULLICK QUINTET: Teddy(tpt/vcls) moved from London to Nottingham in 1973 having already featured in Italian bands and with an appearance on the first New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival(1968). With Bob Hudson leading the rhythm- section, a lively and varied programme is guaranteed.
25 JOHN JOHNSTONE QUINTET: Saxophonist J.J. has been leading bands in Notting- ham for many years, and many of the region's top players have been a part of that history. John is a fan of the Chicago-style of the Eddie Condon bands.
