Nick Smart's acclaimed Black Eyed Dogs project of 2005 celebrated the work of the cult singer/songwriter Nick Drake, reinterpreting Drake's compositions in a refreshing way. Here he tackles Louis Armstrong, reworking classic Armstrong compositions and other tunes associated with him. With a widely praised appearance at 2008's London Jazz Festival, the bass-less trio allow the music to veer off in any direction. Fearless improvisers Koller and Clarvis fashion the music in a contemporary way without straying too far from the simplicity of the originals.
