Phil Robson is well known to Nottingham audiences, be it playing with the group Partisans, backing singer Christine Tobin or leading a quartet with Dave Liebman (all in 2008), his distinctive guitar style is in demand on both sides of the Atlantic. Six Strings and the Beat, originally commissisoned by Derby Jazz, gave Phil Robson his first opportunity to perform with and write for strings. Such diverse influences as Bartok, Ornette Coleman and Malian singer Oumou Sangare. Can be heard in the seemless integration of jazz trio with string quartet.
