Partisans have been wowing Bonington audiences for ten years with their trademark shot of gritty bebop and hard bop, early electric Miles, rock riffs and jam band grooves, ballads with sustained delicacy, or bona fide 'ain't broke and don't need fixing' blasts, short on introspection and big on in-the-moment excitement, all geared up to create adventurous modern jazz combining joyfull melodies with great fire. Influenced as much by Jimi Hendrix as by Miles Davis or Sonny Rollins, the richly lyrical and strongly melodic compositions written by the co-leaders Robson and Siegel provide the framework and starting point for Partisans music, underpinned by the rock solid, freewheeling and supercharged rhythm section of Kelly and Calderazzo.
"One of the most blisteringly powerful, rollingly intense sets that I've ever heard anywhere."
Chris Parker, Jazz Review
