Due to unforeseen circumstances, the bass player has had to cancel and rather than getting a bassist at short notice who is unfamiliar with Kirks music, he has recruited Lee Goodall on alto sax who played on Kirk's recent CD to play at this gig. Kirk has said that he is really excited at the prospect of this gig.
A welcome return to the Bonington for the ever popular Kirk Lightsey. Born in Detroit and influenced by the likes of Tommy Flanagan and Hank Jones, Lightsey has accompanied Dexter Gorden, Freddie Hubbard and many other jazz legends His straight ahead bop piano is filled with joy and passion which like his last visit in October 2005 will want you crying out for more. And More.
A recent Guardian review spoke of him as combining 'the bluesy exuberance of a barrelhouse pianist with elegance of a Chopin recitalist.'
