A double bill pairing two of the East Midlands' most exciting young jazz ensembles. An EMJazz (East Midlands jazz consortium) initiative, this on-going programme provides the opportunity of young professional jazz groups to work with established professional artists. The John Bailey Trio has been working with Julian Siegel while Sidewinder performs with Dave O'Higgins.
The main musical influences on the John Bailey Trio are Keith Jarrett, Brad Mehldau, Dave Holland, Kenny Wheeler and Miles Davis. The Trio was formed in 2004 to play some original music and fresh interpretations of jazz standards.
Directed from a creative core of composer Chris Johnson and musician/sound technologist Simon Paterson, Sidewinder emerged out of Nottingham's Jazz scene in 2004. Fusing jazz, contemporary funk and electronica into a cornucopia of exciting and exotic sounds, Sidewinder investigates the musical possibilities of a live ensemble augmented by live electronics.
