MODERN JAZZ IMPROVISATION SESSION
Contact:
Nottinghamjazzworkshop@yahoo.co.uk
£5.00 per person per 2 hour session
Wednesday 14th July 2010 from 7 - 9pm
In the upstairs room at The Lion Inn, Basford.
Next to the Shipstone St Tram stop.
All instrumentalists are welcome although musicians should have basic technical ability on their instruments. Sessions so far have attracted instrumentalists who have been trained classically and wish to gain improvisation skills and people who can improvise a little and wish to play with others. Of course the ability to play or sing jazz relies on listening a great deal and regular practice, but there are additional skills required to actually perform jazz and these workshop sessions have proved invaluable in this respect allowing musicians to learn how to work with others and gain confidence. Small groupings have already emerged from the workshops and performed publicly as duos, threesomes and larger groups.
The session will focus for two hours (plus) on interpretation and improvisation over the chord sequences of three songs. Participants will be encouraged to improvise in sequence. The session will be supervised by Barbara and Rob will accompany everyone on guitar.
These sessions will be of most benefit if participants carry out some preparation beforehand
The three songs we are working on during the July session are:
Autumn in New York (F maj)
I cover the Waterfront (F maj)
So nice (key?)
