RHYTHM-A-NING
Take your group's music to the next level by working with a leading UK jazz artist.
What is Rhythm-A-Ning?
It's an artist development project which will support nine creative jazz groups based in the East Midlands in taking their music to the next level by rehearsing and performing with leading UK jazz musicians. The project was devised by EMJAZZ and is supported by the Lottery through Arts Council of England's Grants for the Arts. Six bands have already been selected. Three places remain.
What is EMJAZZ?
EMJAZZ is a development agency for jazz in the East Midlands. Created by the regions key jazz organisations; Derby Jazz, Leicester Jazz Forum, Lincolnshire New Jazz Five, Northampton Jazz Co and Nottinghamshire Jazz Steps it is funded by the Arts Council of England. Its activities include advocacy, training, support for strategic programming organisations, education, festival support, the commissioning of new work, and the development of artists, audiences and venues.
How will Rhythm-A-Ning work?
The final three bands selected for the project will be paid for two days of rehearsal and three performances in the East Midlands with a leading UK jazz artist. The performances will be promoted in some of the region's best jazz venues by EMJAZZ member organisations. Bands will be involved in selecting the artist with whom they will work. The scheme will run throughout 2008 and the spring of 2009.
