Leisure Provision in Gedling
I realise that there has been uncertainty about the future of leisure provision since the previous council administration put forward a proposal to develop a new leisure facility in Arnold. This proposal involved the possibility of relocating most of the leisure facilities at Arnold, Redhill and Calverton Leisure Centres and Pond Hills Lane Community Centre and closure of the theatre. This proposal was shelved when a suitable site could not be found.
In my capacity as Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture for the newly elected Council, I can now confirm that Arnold Leisure Centre and Bonington Theatre will remain open at their current location and that the Council will continue to review its leisure provision to see how the current facilities can be enhanced and modernised.
An outline feasibility study will be carried out to identify what potential there is to develop Arnold Leisure Centre on the current site and to outline costs. This will include consultation with user groups and staff. This initial work is expected to take place in November.
