Chris Searle "The blindfold test"
Chris Searle, author of the new book of jazz reviews, Red Groove, knows his jazz. In this session he'll play snatches of tunes - some you'll know, some you'll never guess... he'll talk about the musicians, the songs and their background, in a packed hour's trip round the jazz world.

Note that at 3.45-5.15 on the same day Dorian Lynskey will be talking about the history of protest music, from Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit" to Fela Kuti and Gil Scott Heron by way of Bob Dylan and The Clash

Gwyneth Herbert - The Sea Cabinet
This UK tour is a beautiful, intricate exploration of the sea in all its magic, majesty and mystery. Developed during an artist residency at Snape Maltings, Aldeburgh (the home of Benjamin Britten), it is a unique multi-sensory,multi-layered song-cycle drawing on the area’s violent and beautiful coastline, inspired by stormy morning walks,midnight dips and rumsoaked lock-ins.
Gwyneth’s mini orchestra features world-class musicians and a wondrous array of instruments, voices and sampled field recordings, creating a wild and unpredictable ocean of sound.

All That Jazz with Peter Vacher
Peter Vacher has been writing about jazz for fifty years, including writing too many obituaries in the Guardian. In this sound-illustrated talk he'll explore the lives of band leaders and sidesmen, exploring what drives them. His latest book is Mixed Messages - American Jazz Stories
Free, no ticket required at the WI Hall, Main Street, Lowdham
Peter Vacher's talk forms part of a day of free talks as part of Lowdham Book Festival - though this is the only jazz one!

Local Boy Makes Good
Matt Chandler won the Eastman 2013 Future Guitar Legend competition. His prize was an Eastman John Pisano Signature model and a trip to LA to collect it and get to play with John Pisano himself.
